Our Story

At RVA Hidden History Storytellers we focus on sharing the offbeat and overshadowed aspects of RVA’s history. We are the sister company of Haunts of Richmond Ghost Tours which was founded on the premise of sharing Richmond’s haunted history.

As Haunts of Richmond grew more stories were collected, ghost and history alike. As a result, a mountain of fascinating information was gathered that did not fit with the ghost tours. Nevertheless, there was a strong desire to bring these tales forward in a way that would do justice to the history of Richmond, and those who lived through it.

We currently offer a variety of focused storytelling tours and events. These tours and events are available as public and private tours and you can learn more about them on our home page here: RVA Hidden History Storytellers

Keep an eye on our social media pages to find out what’s new!

We hope that you will consider learning something new about Richmond’s fascinating history with us!

Sincerely,

Beth & Chris Houlihan

Our Owners

Beth Houlihan

With a Masters of Education and Bachelor’s degrees in Theater & Writing from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, sharing her passion for history with an audience has always come naturally to Beth. Beth life as a professional tour guide started with Haunts of Richmond in 2008. At the beginning of 2016 she had the opportunity to take over the company and never looked back. As a part of taking over, she also wanted to take the opportunity to expand the company's offerings. This included the development of what is now Richmond Historic Haunts, the parent company of RVA Hidden History Storytellers and Haunts of Richmond. Today, she is the Richmond Historic Haunts, and also serves as the creative director and head tour guide.

Chris Houlihan

An engineer by trade, with a degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, Chris’ interest in history is rooted in years of exploring historic locations. Chris' entered the tour guide as a greeter for Haunts of Richmond in 2009, and today serves as the Vice President of Richmond Historic Haunts. While he mostly keeps things ticking behind the scenes with research, marketing, finance and more, you can catch him out sharing tales of Richmond's past as well.
